Bone Grafting

For patients who have been missing teeth for a while, or for those who have been using traditional dentures or bridges for some time, jawbone deterioration will have likely occurred. This happens because the roots of the teeth are no longer supplying the bone with necessary blood flow and stimulation, causing the bone to break down. This can prevent you from being a good candidate for dental implants, as enough jawbone density is required for the successful fusion of the dental implants (osseointegration).

To improve the density, our team can graft donor bone or bone from another place in your body to the jaw to fortify its density. After you have healed and our team has examined the jawbone again, you may be ready to receive dental implants.

Sinus Lifts

If erosion has occurred in the upper jawbone, or for patients who have naturally larger sinuses, a sinus lift may be recommended before implant placement. This procedure involves creating a window in the jawbone to gently lift the sinuses, filling the extra space with bone grafting material to hold it in place. This will prevent the sinuses from accidentally becoming punctured during dental implant placement surgery.

Ridge Augmentation

The sockets of your teeth are housed in a portion of the bone along the upper and lower jaw, called the alveolar ridge. It’s an important portion of the bone that stabilizes the tooth roots, holding your teeth in place. If a tooth is lost, this part of the jaw can stop growing and even erode over time. In order to receive dental implants, a ridge expansion procedure may be necessary. During this process, our team will widen and expand the bone, creating enough space to support dental implants.

Guided Bone Regeneration

Similar to bone grafting, bone regeneration involves material being added to the jaw to build its density. However, it takes a more natural approach by adhering a barrier membrane to the bone that introduces key proteins to encourage the body to create new bone tissue, instead of grafting material. It typically takes several months of healing before dental implants can be secured following the procedure.

Tooth Extractions

It’s not uncommon for patients to see us with the hope of pulling and replacing a severely damaged or painful tooth. In these cases, our dental implant team near South Beach is able to conduct fast, safe, and comfortable tooth extractions to start your journey towards a healthier, more functional smile. This procedure involves gently lifting the tooth out of its socket and wiggling it free of any connective tissues before completely removing it. In many cases, no sedation is needed, but our team will numb your mouth for your comfort.
